Feng Shui SOS: "Should I Leave The Toilet Seat Up or Down?"
Whenever I talk to people who are new to Feng Shui, I tend to get asked the same questions again and again. They tend to be based on common misconceptions and the sometimes strange ways in which Feng Shui is portrayed in the media. I thought it best to answer these questions and lay the myths to rest, once and for all!
“Do I Have to Be a Minimalist?”
For some people, Feng Shui is a term that brings to mind plain, beige color schemes and minimalist decors. They feel as though they have to ditch their fun, patterned wallpaper and shelves filled with antique trinkets for a more “zen” decor.
This couldn’t be further from the truth! Feng Shui is all about working with what you already have to make sure you have the right things in the right place to attract success, abundance and love.
In Diamond Feng Shui, there are 24 different colors that are used to attract success, good health, positive relationships, and wisdom into your life. That cherry red photo frame you picked up at a thrift store? Use it to frame a photo of you and your partner and then display it in your personal relationships direction to add a spark of passion! Those aqua blue cushion covers that you sewed together yourself? Place them on a chair in the North area of your living room to help open the flow of clarity.
You don’t have to give up any of your favorite objects - instead, I will teach you the best ways to use them to ensure they attract positive energy into your home.
“Should I Buy a Money Frog/Buddha Statue/Chinese Lucky Coins?”
Some people think that buying one of the above items is a quick-fire shortcut to good Feng Shui. Unfortunately, there isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach to filling your home with positive chi.
Whilst these items are important tools to help enhance your Feng Shui, they shouldn’t be looked at as quick fixes. You can’t set out a money frog and expect your bank balance to suddenly double overnight!
Additional factors like working with your Personal Energy Number, the location and positioning of the rooms in your home, and effective space clearing have far more influence than room decorations.
“Should I Leave the Toilet Seat Up or Down?”
Who knew that the humble toilet could be the source of such controversy! There are a lot of people who insist that leaving the toilet seat up flushes away all your positive energy, or “chi”. In Diamond Feng Shui, it doesn’t actually make too much of a difference.
There are some essential “must-do’s” that should be followed in relation to your bathroom, and none of them involve your toilet seat! Firstly, make sure your toilet and the bathroom itself is regularly scrubbed clean and there is sweet-smelling air freshener to keep things fresh. Ensure that the door to the bathroom is kept closed, whether the room is in use or not.
Finally, and most importantly, make sure that you’re not displaying any photos of your family and loved ones, your trophies, or statues of any religious figures. You must have heard stories about award-winning actors placing their Oscars in their bathroom, but this is really bad Feng Shui. Think about it; is the bathroom really the place you want to display to the Universe all the things that you hold dear?
Hopefully this helps to debunk some of the myths and gives you reassurance that there’s room enough for everyone in Diamond Feng Shui!
